In the United Kingdom, death within 28 days of a positive test was the official government definition of a COVID death, so if you tested positive for COVID and were hit by a bus, that could be added to the COVID death tally.
People admitted to hospitals, of whom 2% die, are regularly tested for COVID, so if you succumb to complications of a prior medical condition and test positive, that's another COVID death.
